I usually use them only on roads with inadequate street lighting or in areas where there may be animals crossing. Watch for their eyes to reflect the light.

Of course, I dim my high beams when meeting another car, approaching from behind, and when turning a corner n the road and my lights might shine in the windows of a house.

Often enough to better see poorly-marked curb islands in parking lots at night.

But I never use high-intensity discharge lights, and I wish the people
who did, would instead read their owners manual and learn how to turn
them OFF and use just regular lights in the city! They are worse than using brights in heavy traffic! They can make contrast so extreme that an oncoming driver cannot see a dark road hazard or pedestrian right behind or next to the ultra-bright UFO-like car!!!

Once again the question is entirely invalid. Use of high beams is not a question of frequency but of present conditions. If you're driving a rural highway in the desert, you prolly have them on most of the time. When you then come into to a town, that highway, you turn 'em off.

"How often" does not apply. "Where" does.

My low beam lights are so bad I leave my high beams on all the time and nobody can tell the difference. I have not once had someone flash their lights at me because I was blinding them so I leave them on all the time!
